Peds cardiologist, sports medicine fellow among new faculty appointees

Dr. Bill Moskowitz, chief of pediatric cardiology and director of pediatric cardiac catheterization at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, has joined the Medical Center faculty as a professor of pediatrics, chief of pediatric cardiology and co-director of the Children’s of Mississippi Children’s Heart Center.

After receiving his B.S. in biology from Florida Technical University in 1975, Moskowitz earned his M.D. at the University of South Florida in 1978. He was a pediatric resident and then a fellow in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Moskowitz served as a clinician and educator at VCU for 34 years and was named professor of pediatric cardiology in 2000. A World Pediatric Project volunteer for nearly 20 years, he has led 39 medical missions to nations in Central and South America and the Caribbean. During his WPP work, he developed a program to screen children in the Eastern Caribbean for rheumatic fever, an offshoot of untreated strep throat that can cause lingering heart damage.

A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology, Moskowitz has served in numerous leadership posts in the Virginia chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2017, he was named to the board of the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, an organization that seeks to reduce and prevent childhood obesity and tobacco and substance abuse.

Lauren Heather O’Malley, M.D.

Dr. Lauren Heather O’Malley, recently a primary care sports medicine fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery.

After receiving her B.A. in economics from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2006, O’Malley earned her M.D. at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, in 2012. The following year, she earned her M.B.A. at the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics. She completed internal medicine residency training in 2017 before coming to UMMC for her fellowship.

A medical volunteer for several international organizations, including Health Right of Morgantown, Floating Doctors of Bocas Del Toro, Panama, and St. Jude Hospital in St. Lucia, West Indies, among others, O’Malley has given several academic presentations and has authored or coauthored research posters presented at scientific meetings. While at West Virginia University, she was the recipient of several awards, including the 2017 Patient Care Award for outstanding internal medicine resident patient care at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Britney Reulet, M.S.

Britney Reulet, a post-secondary technical career instructor at Hinds Community College, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of health science in the School of Health Related Professions.

A certified surgical technologist at UMMC from 2007-12, Reulet earned her B.S. in health science from UMMC in 2012. She joined the Hinds Community College faculty in 2012 and earned her M.S. in technology education in 2018.

Reulet is the author of a 2014 article in the Surgical Technologist, “Finding My Calling: The Day That Changed My Life.”
